Dear Groovejack.com listener,

I’m supposed to write a bio and as opposed to writing about who I’ve played with (which personally I think is irrelevant as playing with good DJs doesn’t necessarily make me a good one), or writing about how I’m classically trained in a billion different instruments (I’m not. I took 3 years of piano lessons when I was 6), or writing in third person (I think it’s creepy) or having someone else write my bio (who knows me best but me?) I’ve decided to write about why I do what I do.

The reason why I DJ is simply this, I’m in love with music. And as true love goes, my love of music is blind and rare. I can’t fall in love with every single track, however once in awhile, after I’ve spent hours digging through records in a vinyl shop on a rainy day, or scouring the internet, I will find that one piece of vinyl, that one special track that speaks to me. Sometimes it’s a track that will have elements of something that reminds me of my past or perhaps it’s a completely brand new sound that I’ve never heard.

Sometimes I don’t even know why this one particular track speaks to me, it just does. And when I search, I’m not hung up on any particular genres or know exactly what I’m looking for. Chances are, what I’m looking for and what I end up finding are on two completely different ends of the spectrum. Sometimes the imperfections like the warm crackle and pops of vinyl are what draw me. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to touch my emotions on some level.

And then I take the track to my turntables, lay it down and get to know it, learn what works and what doesn’t while the excitement of finding an exceptional track still courses through me. The perfect set really is a relationship, the key is balance. Sometimes the music goes up, sometimes it goes down, sometimes it’s simple, and sometimes it’s complicated. Sometimes you let the music take your away, but then there are other times when you take hold of it and lead it to where you want it. Ultimately though, no matter how hard to try, you can’t force it, you can’t predict it, you just have to let go. And that brings me back to why I do what I do.

I’ve got one goal as a DJ – I want you to let go.

Phatflo - Session Five

01 Joshua Heath - I Refuse
02 Eric Davenport featuring Kandace - Time To Let You Go (Giom Remix)
03 Pocket Aces - Tell Me
04 White Collar Criminals - Novacain
05 Da Sunlounge, Inland Knights Vs Andy Clockwork - Track A
06 Fred Everything feat Roy Davis Jr - On My Own (Giom Remix)
07 Dr Gonzo - Don’t Stop
08 Nonfiction feat Illson - What This Will Be
09 D-t3ch - Brain Funk (Hector Moralez Minority Mix)
10 Filthy Pres - State To State (Dub)
11 Rick Neumen - Thank God It’s Friday (Leon Louder)
12 TBF - Express Yourself
13 Jack Bandit - Have A Good One
14 Nonfiction - I Remember (Wally Callerio Dubtacular Mix)

Check it out! groovejack.com. Lots of sick music going up and a heck of a lot of talented djs.
